History of the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550
The BlackBerry Storm series was created for the Verizon Wireless network to compete against the hugely popular AT&T-supported iPhone 3GS. The Storm 2 succeeded in capturing an entirely new market of business professionals who wanted a high-end pocket PC that had international capabilities. Available since October 2009, the BlackBerry Storm 2 is still available through Verizon.
BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 Features
Debuting 11 months after the first generation Storm blew into town, the Storm 2 gave users what they had been missing Wi-Fi support. Combined with Verizon's EV-DO 3G and EDGE networks, the Storm 2 provided faster access to online data and stronger support for a wealth of multimedia features that encompassed visual voicemail, immediate access to social networking sites and a threaded chat view for instant messaging.
The Storm 2 was also highly praised for its other upgrades, which included twice the amount of memory at 2GB, an improved BlackBerry 5 operating system that featured a more user-friendly interface and a higher quality HTML browser that supported JavaScript, Flash Player and real-time streaming. A more precise SurePress touchscreen, enabled with some multitouch functions such as copy and paste, was also included.
Building upon the success of its predecessor, the Storm 2 retained the vivid VGA 2.3-inch screen, stereo Bluetooth, the GPS receiver and the 3.2MP camera with video, flash and autofocus features. It also kept its world-roaming capabilities, although voice and email coverage was expanded to 219 countries.
Like all the modern BlackBerry phones, the Storm 2 includes a spell check feature for emails and memos, as well as a program for working with Microsoft Office documents. It also supports the company's Enterprise service and up to 10 personal and business email accounts, although new updates allow for the creation of folders and forwarding calendar appointments. Popular PIM programs, such as a task list, memo pad, voice recorder and password keeper, were also preserved.
