The wait is officially over and Samsung has released the new Galaxy S III phone. This cell phone is sure to make Samsung a contender in the smartphone major players arena and give iPhone 4S a run for its money. It should be noted, however, that Samsung has become the number one smartphone brand, overtaking Apple in first-quarter sales. One of the reasons why Samsung is poised to do just this? Because the Galaxy S III is one phone that knows your face.

Literally.

Face and Voice Recognition
The newest Galaxy cell phone has both face and voice recognition features that consumers will surely love. The company is billing it one of the first phones truly “designed” for human use. The voice recognition is tailored to the user’s voice and the face recognition is actually eye recognition, which for security purposes users are going to go crazy for. The cool thing about the voice recognition is that users are able to wake up their phones by using a simple pre-programmed command. Even better, the phone recognizes Facebook friends in images taken with the phone and asks the users if these photos should be shared.

Additional Features
The new Samsung has a slew of additional features that make it stand out in the cell phone crowd. These features include a 4.8 inch display as well as an eight megapixel camera. The Galaxy S III of course runs Android, so this is a premium opportunity to upgrade from your old Android smartphone. You might consider selling it, getting back some cold hard cash and then upgrading to the new Galaxy to take advantage of the numerous bells and whistles.

Price for the new phone, which will launch at the end of May, have not yet been announced. However, there are enough Samsung devotees out there that won’t care what the price is just to have a crack at what is cutting edge smartphone technology.

What are your thoughts on the new Droid phone? Do you plan to get one and would you trade in an older model for this hot new model?

The old adage that you can’t believe everything you read certainly rings true when it comes to certain aspects of the cell phone market. Sometimes, a company is promising you things, such as 4G speed, and may not be delivering on those claims. For example, T-Mobile often touts itself as “America’s Largest 4G Network” and AT&T turns around and does the same. So, who is telling the truth when it comes to this advertising and how do you know which of them has the more accurate claim?

The reality is that both may be stretching the truth a bit, since there is little difference between 4G and the previous 3G term. The idea is that the networks are faster and more efficient, but in reality, just about everyone is working off the same network in most instances. While you may get a smarter phone model, the truth is that the network itself likely doesn’t change drastically between the major carriers, with the exception of where you can get service. Keep that in mind the next time you decide to pay more for America’s largest and faster “G” network.

It might seem like common sense by now, but far too many people still find themselves in hot water when it comes to photos found on their cell phones. When taking photos on cell phones, it is always best to keep things PG, because you never know who might get ahold of your cell phone and expose your pictures to just about anyone. Before you go selling your cell phone, consider a few no-nos when it comes to pictures on your cell phone:

* Don’t take any pics that your mother would not approve of. Think of your phone like a computer: it can be hacked at any time, and hackers can get to your photos and release them on the Internet for the world to see.

* Don’t overload your phone with random pics: If you are going to take pictures on your cell phones, then take ones that you can immediately transfer to your external drive. This ensures that you don’t clog up your phone with photos.

* Don’t include personal information on your phones: If someone gets hold of your pics, you don’t want your address or identifying information included on them.

Aaaaah, food. It never is far from anyone’s mind. Why not celebrate yours — and everyone’s really — love affair with your favorite food with a funky new iPhone cover. The iPhone brand offers at least 20 cases, skins and various covers that offer food-like decor. This includes Campbell’s Soup, bacon-inspired covers, beverages and more. There is literally a design to suit just about every taste, giving your iPhone yet another point of visual interest. The beauty of playing with covers is that if and when you are ready to sell your iPhone, you can simply take the cover off and apply it to whatever new phone model you decide to purchase.

Top choices include Starbucks, Skittles, Campbell’s Soup, french fries and more. You can even create customized versions of some of the skins to make them more personal to your food likes and dislikes. It’s a safe bet that if you are trying to avoid some of your favorite foods, you might want to refrain from getting one of these covers, as it is bound to make you feel just a little extra hungry after looking at your favorite skin or cover.

It can be very tempting to clog up your phone with various apps and programs, since you are essentially carrying around a mini computer in your pocket these days. You may want to download apps for work and functional purposes, as well as some fun stuff to pass the time during boring moments. But just like a computer, you have to be wary of just how much stuff you download to your phone to avoid clogging it up and ending up with a very slow moving device.

Too many apps on your phone can literally cause the operating system to crash or corrupt. On a more minimal level, too much taking up memory on your phone can cause it to move very slow, which may not bother you on the average day, but can be a real craw in your side when you are trying to get directions from a navigational program or are in need of looking up information quickly. Keep this in mind for everything that you download, so that you don’t end up overloading your smartphone and having to get rid of it for a new model. Even the smartest smartphones can only hold so much information, so download sparingly.

It can quite easy to allow mobile devices to pile up when you upgrade or exchange one for another.

In most instances, where you are using an app on your Android phone and opt out of sharing your personal information with the app, you feel pretty content that your information won’t be passed around to the highest bidder. After all, that is the reason for even utilizing such apps, because you don’t want to incur a vast amount of spam coming through your text messaging or via email.

On Android, you might think that when you opt of an app’s permission for information, you’re good to go. This might, however, not be the case. In some instances, the app gets and shares your information regardless of whether you give it permission to or not. A study recently conducted by Leviathan Security Group showed that your Android may still provide sensitive information from your phone to apps that request it. This is not a unique issue to Android; it’s just that many Android users are devoted to this phone because of the highly touted security features of the ‘Droid.

Keep that in mind when downloading apps is all well and good, but be prepared to sacrifice some of your privacy in the name of playing the latest game or finding ways to pass the time playing around on your smartphone.

Despite the wild continued popularity of the Apple brand, activations among iPhones are down for AT&T and Verizon for the smartphone model. For the first quarter of 2012, Verizon reported just 3.2 million activations, while AT&T reported 4.3 million activations, coming in well short of expectations for the iPhone brand. The drop is about 43% for AT&T and 24% for Verizon, according to CNN.com.

This may be due, in part, to the fact that rivals of Apple are starting to make quite a bit of noise, particularly from the very strong Android brand. In fact, for both Verizon and AT&T, sales of non-Apple smartphones is on the rise. Moreover, Apple may be suffering from holiday syndrome, in which non-holiday sales simply aren’t as significant, as people have become accustomed to purchasing Apple products during major release sales or the holiday season. They simply don’t come out in droves to pay full prices for these models. This may also be because of the steep cost of the iPhone model, giving consumers even more of a reason to sell this brand and move on to try something else. It remains to be seen as to whether or not Apple can continue to grow or whether it has plateaued at this point.

So many people are hot to buy the latest mobile devices when they hit the scene, however, experts are now saying that patience can often pay off when you wait before making a purchase. There are various times of the year — Christmas, back to school sales, etc. — when mobile device prices are at an all-time low. Instead of running out to purchase the latest device, instead wait until one of those special sales to make your purchase.

In some instances, you can save more than 50 percent on retail price when getting a mobile device — think the latest iPhone or a tablet — through a special sale. Being patient can also pay off when a new device has been announced, as the price of the model released just before the newer one often takes a nosedive in price as retailers strive to get rid of inventory to make way for the latest and greatest mobile device instead. Keep this in mind anytime you decide to go with a new mobile device as an upgrade to your existing repertoire.
