Last weekend, Apple continued to do damage control across various facets of the company as it settled a class action lawsuit regarding the antenna of the iPhone 4. Dubbed “Antennagate” by tech writers when the hubbub first began, the issue was centered on the fact that the antenna wrapped around the phone to aid in creating a slimmer model. Users complained that this led to their iPhone 4 models dropping calls left and right every time a user held the phone in a certain location. Now, Apple has promised a free case or $15 to every iPhone 4 user in the United States, which might come too late for users that may have sold the iPhone 4 model in favor of a less buggy smartphone.
Apple released a statement to CNet about the matter, saying “This settlement relates to a small number of customers who indicated that they experienced antenna or reception issues with their iPhone 4, and didn’t want to take advantage of a free case from Apple when it was being offered in 2010.” An attorney familiar with the case stated that close to 21 million people with iPhone 4 models were going to be eligible for the $15 payout. Customers will receive an email in April about the settlement, and will only have 120 days to claim their monies.
